Everyone Is Welcome In Music | Poster

As a Canadian educator it is important that we acknowledge about what is happening in the US right now and have those important conversations with our students. Back in March of 2020, one of my conversations was sparked by a student who was wearing a "Black Lives Matter" shirt on camera. This inspired me to make a poster to have in view for my students to see.

I created this poster for music educators to place in the background of their camera-view while teaching or in their classroom on a board. When students see things like this, you are modelling what a good human being is, which means someone who can accept and love people no matter their gender, skin tone or who they love. It also makes them think that you are someone they can talk to about the way they are feeling and can lead them to something or someone who can help.

*Please note: Printing out a poster and putting it up somewhere in your room/classroom does not make you an inclusive educator or an ally. There is so much more that you can do, starting with reading and educating yourself, talking with your students about current events, having conversations with your coworkers, opening up conversations with your families, taking part in an event, donating time or money to a cause, supporting Black-owned business, etc.
